He was born July 19, 1933, in Parke County, the son of Glenn Miller Chapman and Eula Mae Strange Chapman.
He graduated from Bridgeton High School, class of 1951.
He attended Morehead State University in Kentucky.
David served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On June 12, 1954, he married the love of his life, Shirley Mager Chapman.
Together, they raised their family not far from his family home place in rural Parke County.
He was a life-long member of the Bridgeton United Methodist Church and served the church in many capacities over the years.
He was also active in numerous community civic organizations, but most important were his church and his family.
David was a farmer all his life and also worked part-time for the Pike Lumber Co., in Carbon.
Survivors include his loving wife Shirley, son Michael David Chapman and wife Patti, Fairland, Ind., daughter Cathy Jean Hutcheson and husband Ted, Carbon, grandchildren Candice J. Burnett (Jordan), Cara J. Johnson (Michael), Kimberly S. Chapman, Kathryn M. Chapman and David Michael Chapman, sister Audrey Biggs and husband Bob, Payson, Ariz., sister-in-law Rosemary Chapman, Lafayette, many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, infant Morris and Julian Chapman.
Services will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., Brazil, with his brother-in-law Pastor Perry Mager and Rev. Linda Smock officiating.
Burial will follow at the Mager Cemetery in Diamond.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or to The Gideon's.
