Harmony Town Clerk/Treasurer Donna Mullinix said the person who fills the "shoes" Don McCollister wore as a member of the Harmony Town Council, will have to find a way to make them fit.
"It's going to be a hard position to fill," Mullinix told The Brazil Times.
McCollister -- who had been a member of the town council since 1999 -- died July 28.
The town has already had one meeting without him and has scheduled a special meeting to fill his position for 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19.
"He was very thorough," Mullinix said. "(His death was) very unexpected. Everyone was upset."
McCollister was born in Knightsville, but Harmony Town Council President Janice Gooch said he spent most of his life in Harmony.
"He will be greatly missed by me," Gooch said, adding she had known McCollister for several years. "He was very helpful."
McCollister had been reelected to serve in his position last year.
Gooch added the board will have the position filled following the meeting.
"We have to appoint somebody and we have had people inquire about the position," she said.
Mullinix -- who has served in her current position for more than 10 years -- said two people attended the council's Aug. 4 meeting asking about the position.
Those interested in the position are encouraged to send a letter to the town at PO Box 235, Harmony, Ind., 47853.
Other council members include Leslee McDonald and Elmer Pollard.
The Harmony Town Council will conduct a special meeting at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at the Harmony Community Center for the purpose of filling the vacancy on the town council resulting from the death of Don Hubert McCollister. Letters of intent to fill the vacancy may be sent to the Town of Harmony, PO Box 235, Harmony, Ind., 47853, by Monday, Aug. 17, 2009.
