He was born July 26, 1978, to David and Vicki Nevins. Derek attended Northview High School. Derek had been working for Timberland Wood Components in Brazil. He had also worked for Graversons Construction and Bob Nevins Construction. He enjoyed fishing, camping, racing, woodworking and spending time with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Daniel and Ethel Nevins and Jim Cass, and an uncle Dan Targett.
Survivors include his parents David and Vicki Nevins, siblings James Cass, Center Point, Amy Heading and husband Jeremy, Brazil, and Patty Shelley and husband Robert, Brazil, girlfriend Amanda Morris, Brazil, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel Friday, Aug.14, 2009, at 1 p.m., with Robert Nevins officiating. Burial will follow at Sink Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday, from 11 a.m., until time of services.
