Hayes, Blue Devils sweep competition

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Daniel Hayes, a 2007 Northview High School graduate, joined up with the Concord Blue Devils this year after spending one season with the Cadets.

The move paid off for Hayes as the Blue Devils were recently named Drum Corps International 2009 World Class World Champions.

The Blue Devils swept through competition this year and scored a 99.05, just one-tenth of a point shy of the all-time mark.

In Open Class competition, Blue Devils B earned the gold medal as well.

The Blue Devils took top honors in all captions with the exception of brass, which Carolina Crown claimed.

The Blue Devils are the largest Drum and Bugle Corps in the country and are based in Concord, Calif.

Hayes is a trumpet player and marched for the Northview Marching Knights.

The Blue Devils were founded in 1957 and have won hundreds of awards.

Competition took place Saturday, Aug. 8, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
