Candidate calls for public meetings

Thursday, August 13, 2009

BAINBRIDGE -- Republican 8th District Candidate for Congress Dan Stockton recently called upon Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-Evansville) to conduct public meetings during August recess.

Stockton, of Bainbridge in Putnam County, declared his candidacy for the 8th District in June.

He called upon Ellsworth to hold the meetings with 8th District constituents in all 18 counties.

"Congress will be considering very important legislation in the upcoming session and Rep. Ellsworth should be taking his time to hear what the people he represents have to say," Stockton said. "The proposed health care reforms are at the top of the agenda, but there are other significant issues. In the bigger pictures, the growing federal budget deficit and the size and scope of the federal government are issues that need to be addressed.

"The people also deserve to hear where Rep. Ellsworth stands on the issues and face-to-face meetings are ideal for this exchange. He should reconsider his decision to cancel plans to meet with constituents on a widespread basis. What is he afraid of? Let the people be heard."

Stockton said since announcing his candidacy, he has visited constituents in the district.

"Since then, I have visited all counties in the district to hear what people have to say and will continue to do so," he said.

Hey Dan! Good words. Since Ellsworth refuses to represent his constituents, will you? Ellsworth said he would too but somehow that got lost between lobbyists and "partyism". You should run as a non-affiliated candidate. Not a republicrat or a demonrat. Just represent us. We don't care what "party" you are.Good luck and God Speed...

Dan, Thanks for speaking up for the citizens who are tired of our representatives getting elected as our spokesperson, then shortly thereafter becoming another politician who caters to Washington power brokers and forgets who got them there. I look forward to learning more about you because I'm ready for a REAL CHANGE (getting back to the basics and values of what our country and government was founded on .

Is this article an official support position for this candidate by this paper?? Seems that might be more appropriate in letter to editor form...

Ellsworth doesn't need to hear from his constituents. He's going to do what Nancy Pelosi tells him to do.

Jenny, I didn't think that the article even remotely eluded to candidacy support, merely bringing to light that Mr. Stockton would like to see Rep. Illsworth meet with the people he represents. This paper has been known to do that very unabashedly at times but not in this instance.

Have a great day.
