The first-time event will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22.
"This could become an annual event," Troop 101 Assistant Scout Master Anita Walker said. "We're hoping to have a great turnout. We're shooting for maybe 100 or 125 boys. We're trying to get the word out. We're optimistic."
Walker's husband Scott is the Scout Master for Troop 101, which is based in Brazil. Its chartered organization is First Christian Church.
In addition, Troop 95, based out of Jackson Township, will also be involved in the event.
Those attending will be able to take part in pinewood derby races, scout cooking, and various other scouting demonstrations, including water rocket launches, fishing instruction and a raingutter regatta.
Walker said in the raingutter regatta, scouts will take house gutters and place them next to each other.
They then fill the gutters with water, place cardboard boats in the gutters and blow them across the water to see which boat will make it to the end the fastest.
Free hot dogs, drinks and cotton candy will be available. Those who register as a scout for only $7 will also be able to participate in BB gun and Archery shooting.
Walker said scout organizers wanted to try something different this year to gain more interest in scouting.
"We're trying to do a fun event for the boys," she said. "Every year, at the beginning of the school year, we try to do some kind of recruitment event. We decided to have a big day event so we could get all of the boys together and show them some of the fun stuff they would do in scouting.
"We pretty much came up with this really to try to get more boys involved."
Walker said Troop 101 has 14 scouts, ranging in ages from 11-15.
"This could become an annual event," she said.
Those who are unable to attend the Aug. 22 function will be invited back to First Christian Church Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 6:30 p.m., or at First United Methodist Church, 610 Washington St., Clay City, for more information on joining scouts.
