A Terre Haute man, who was on his way to visit friends in Indianapolis, was arrested for alleged public intoxication while attempting to ride a bicycle on Interstate-70 Saturday.
Around 8:25 p.m., 911 Dispatchers at the Clay County Justice Center (CCJC) took a report of a man riding eastbound on a bicycle in and out of traffic on I-70 near the 19-mile marker.
While responding to the call, Indiana State Police Trooper Mike Finney located Dustin A. Compton, 23, Terre Haute, walking from a Roadmaster Mountain Storm bicycle toward a row of trees near the 21-mile marker.
During an investigation, Finney noticed Compton smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared unsteady. Compton failed subsequent alcohol and field sobriety tests resulting in his arrest.
Compton was transported to the CCJC and preliminarily booked on class B misdemeanor charge of public intoxication and a class C infraction of pedestrians and bicycles prohibited on interstate highways. Compton's bicycle was impounded.
