Marian L. Chavis, 89, Brazil, died Aug. 17, 2009, at 2 p.m., at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility.

She was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Clay County, the daughter of Harry and Emma Altman Archer.

She graduated from Van Buren High School. On May 1, 1940, she married Harvey H. Chavis. Harvey passed away in August 1970.

Marian was a member of the Harmony EUB Church as a young girl and was baptized there. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandma.

Survivors include her two sons Larry Chavis and fiancÚ Kristy Thompson, Brazil, and Gary Chavis and wife Phyllis, Terre Haute, two grandchildren Tammy Chavis, Newcastle, and Brent Chavis and wife Kelly, Lebanon, two great-grandchildren Bailey Gyger and husband Justin, Lebanon, and Shiloh Chavis, Lebanon, one great-great grandchild Maddison Gyger, two nephews Ronnie Branham and Dick Branham, Greencastle, and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harvey Chavis, one infant brother Harry Archer and one sister Lucille Priebe.

Services will be held Thursday, at 1 p.m., at Lawson-Miller Chapel, with Rev. William Price officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
