Richard R. Tucker, 89, Terre Haute, passed away Aug. 19, 2009, at Southwood Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness.
He was born in Parke County, Aug. 26, 1919, the son of Steven and Jessie Tucker. Richard graduated from Raccoon Township High School. He joined the United States Army in November 1942. Mr. Tucker served during World War II in Italy, with the 68th Service Squadron and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in November 1945. Mr. Tucker owned and operated an employment agency in Terre Haute for several years before starting Hoosier Fiberglass on South 3rd Street in 1958. Mr. Tucker had created several new plastic products that have been patented. Richard enjoyed taking fishing trips to Canada with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed watching sports on television. Mr. Tucker was a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Anna Gisler and brother Joseph Tucker.
Survivors include his daughter Cassandra Peters (Don), Center Point, sons Lyndon Tucker (Kathy), Angola, Ind., and Benjamin J. Tucker, Prairieton, Ind., grandsons David, Steven, Andrew, Matthew and Mark, granddaughters Angela, Michelle, Jessica and Amanda, five great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters and one great-great-grandson, as well as several extended family members.
Graveside services will be at Clear Run Cemetery, Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Steven Bahrt officiating. Visitation will be at French Funeral Home Friday, from 5-8 p.m.
