Accidents keep personnel busy

Monday, August 24, 2009

Two weekend accidents kept local emergency response personnel busy.

Although details are limited due to the ongoing investigations, information provided by Clay County Sheriff's Department confirmed the two accidents took place within hours of each other.

Around 7:30 p.m., Saturday, a two-vehicle collision occurred approximately one-mile south of Interstate-70 on State Road 59 involving a car and motorcycle. Along with CCSD, members of Posey and Jackson Township volunteer fire departments and Clay County Search and Rescue responded to the scene.

AirEvac was initially placed on standby because the unidentified motorcycle driver was reportedly not wearing a helmet, but, once the injuries were assessed, it was determined TransCare could transport the victim to St. Vincent Clay Hospital.

Officials left the scene around 8 p.m., but were called out to a second accident a few hours later.

Around 2:30 a.m., Sunday, members CCSD, Center Point Volunteer Fire Department and TransCare were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of County Road 100 East and County Road 200 North.

The unidentified driver, who was complaining of body pain and had a face laceration, was taken to the hospital.

No further information is available regarding either of the victims' medical condition.
