Joyce Arlene Goldner Stevenson
Joyce Arlene Goldner Stevenson, 72, Brazil, died Aug. 23, 2009, at St. Vincent Clay Hospital following complications from cancer.
She was born Sept. 30, 1936, in Clinton, Ind., the daughter of John W. and Della Davis Goldner.
Joyce graduated from Clinton High School, class of 1954. As a young girl, Joyce worked at the Aragon Pool and loved every minute of it. After graduation, she worked at the Ft. Harrison Bank in Terre Haute. She had attended the Methodist Church as a young girl and had raised their children in the church as well.
On Sept. 1, 1957, she married the love of her live, John "Jack" Stevenson. Together, they started raising their family in Terre Haute and then in 1964, they moved to Brazil. She and Jack had founded Brazil Heating in 1959 and she ran the office for several years.
Joyce spent many years in Girl Scouts as a leader in Brazil with many camping trips, cookouts, parades and even lemonade stand fundraisers for the troops. She and Jack were very active in the Jaycees with Clothe-A-Child program at Christmas. Her memberships included Tri Kappa and Christmas in the Park, including co-founding the "Breakfast with Santa" event.
Joyce was an avid sports fan supporting through the years the Brazil Red Devils and currently the Northview Knights. She truly enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids and all of their friends as they played sports.
She has always been in love with anything that involves nature, with emphasis on bird watching, star gazing and gardening too.
A priority in Joyce's life has been time spent with her high school class members. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1954 and had just finished planning their 55th class reunion. Her class has been a very close group and had spent time together every year.
One thing said many times about Joyce through the years was that she never met a stranger. She loved to talk to everyone and learn their story of life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John "Jack" Stevenson in 1991.
Survivors include her children Jill Doll (Davey), New Carlisle, Ind., Janet Bettis (Scott), Rockville, and John H. Stevenson Jr. (Sherri), Brazil, grandchildren Christina Doll Kaler (Joe), Amanda Doll, Christopher Doll (Lori), Madason Stevenson, Drake Stevenson, Connor Bettis and Mercedees Bettis, great-grandsons Beau Kaler, Trent Doll and Broderic Kaler, her twin brother, John Larry Goldner and wife Bev of Terre Haute, Mike Goldner and wife Mary Jo of Jacksonville, FL, Steven "Duff" Goldner, of CA, and Jason "Randy" Goldner and wife Debbie of Indianapolis, several nieces, nephews and extended family.
