Although no structural damage took place within the house, Brazil Fire Department firefighters battled a small blaze on the roof of a porch Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called out shortly after 7 a.m., to a home occupied by Rich Gradzki and family, 416 E. Blaine St., Brazil.

BFD Captain Jim Smith said the fire was contained to the roof of the porch in front of the home.

"They were working on putting on a new roof and somehow, the roof caught on fire," Smith told The Brazil Times.

Smith said the occupants of the home were still in the house when firefighters arrived.

"They were trying to put it out themselves," he said. "They were pouring water on the it through the window."

Smith said the fire is still under investigation.

No one was injured as a result of the blaze.

Also responding to the fire were the Brazil Police Department and TransCare.
