Home was not sweet for the Northview girls' golf team Thursday night at Forest Park Golf Course.

The Knights registered a team score of 185, which was bested by Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South, both with a 175, during the three-way match.

After dropping a match 164-193 to South on Aug. 18, at Rea Park, it was the second defeat Northview was handed by the Braves in the past 10 days.

"Overall, we did play well," Northview coach Josh Trout said. "We were able to keep it competitive today."

Hayley Miller led the Knights, posting a 41, followed by Olivia Oehler, Mandy Thomlinson and Shelby French, who rounded out the scoring with respective rounds of 42, 49 and 53.

"Hayley really stepped up and posted her best round of the year," Trout said. "Although Olivia caught a couple of bad breaks, she really hit the ball well and I believe Shelby registered her best match of the season as well."

Rachel Welker led the charge for the Patriots (4-0 in nine-hole matches) with a 35, while Kelsey Fuqua put in a 39 as the best score for Terre Haute South (6-0).

The losses drop the Knights to 3-4 in nine-hole matches on the year as they head into the Western Indiana Conference Tournament, Saturday, at Sullivan Elks Country Club.

"We put up a solid score going into the conference tournament," Trout said. We'll spend tomorrow (Friday) on the range working on putting and chipping to get the little kinks out."

While Trout acknowledged there are some tough teams in the tournament, the course itself may put everyone on even footing.

"Owen Valley and Edgewood are always competitive," he said. "But this is the first time the tournament will be on this course, so it will be unfamiliar and it could level out the playing field."

Northview's first golfer is anticipated to tee off between 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., Saturday, at Sullivan Elks Country Club.
