Wednesday, September 2, 2009

TERRE HAUTE -- The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society presents "Valley Coal Mines and Miner's Records," from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 14.

The program is free and open to the public and will take place at the Vigo County Public Library.

Cinda Ann May is the guest speaker.

May is the coordinator of Library Digital Initiatives and the Project Manager of the Wabash Valley Visions and Voices Digital Memory Project at Indiana State University. She holds master degrees in English, Library and Information Science, and History.

In 2006, May received a Library Services Technology Mini Digitization Grant to launch the first phase of a project titled "O Miners Awake: Indiana Coal Miners, Their Families and Their Communities" which documents coal mining, past and present, in 25 Indiana counties.

May also serves as a consultant for the "Early Vincennes" digitization project based at the Knox County Public Library.
