ELLETSVILLE -- The Northview tennis team scored a crucial conference victory on Tuesday night, defeating Edgewood on the road, 3-2.

The Knights got superlative efforts at No. 3 singles and in both doubles matches to claim the WIC victory and a 3-0 mark in the conference.

"Coming into this match we had extra incentive knowing this could be for the WIC," coach Mark Orr said. "We knew we had to win at No. 3 singles and both doubles. Their No. 1 and No. 2 (singles) are as good as anyone. Trent Sims stepped up to the challenge and played what I thought was his best match of the year."

Sims came through with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles for the Knights to give Northview an important win as Edgewood's Alex Narry and Brandon Burn each won singles matches over Carson Kleiber, 6-2, 6-3 and Caleb Mershon, 6-2, 6-4.

At doubles, Joey Thomas and Caleb Andrews picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 over Hayden Holmes and John Kerr with the Knights No. 2 duo of Dillon Reynolds and Sam Miller scoring a 7-5, 6-2 victory.

"Sam (Miller) and Dillon (Reynolds) stayed steady, hit their shots and played great at No. 2 doubles. Joey (Thomas) and Caleb (Andrews) continue to play great together," Orr said.

The Knights next match is this evening on the road at West Vigo beginning at 5 p.m.
