The North Clay Knights looked impressive all around, as both girls and boys cross country teams put together solid showings in a three-way meet with North Central and Sullivan Wednesday.

The girls kicked things off, winning with a low score of 22, racing past North Central (33) and Sullivan (69). Emily Conrad and Allie Dupin easily took the top two spots with times of 13:27.8 and 14:16.8 respectively.

Other North Clay runners in the top-10 included Leeanna Knight (5th), Kaysia Reberger (6th) and Brittany Fagg (8th).

The Knights had to compensate for the loss of Olivia Howald, who is out of action indefinitely after coming down with mono. Coach Chris Walker said he felt the girls, who were unaware of the illness until moments before the meet, adjusted well to losing Howard.

"(The girls) ran pretty good," Walker said. "They had to adjust very quickly to (Olivia) being out and they did so very well."

The boys meet was essentially an exhibition match for the Knights, as neither opposing school had enough runners to constitute a complete squad. The Knights took advantage of the mismatch, taking the top six slots, and 11 of the meet's top-12 finishes.

Nic Yocom, who has been dominant all season, continued his reign of superiority, as his 10:36.7 finish was good enough to take first place by 1:14. Rounding out the top-five were Ian Heffner, Travis Bell, Cam Trout and Brendan Morris.

Walker was very praiseful of his team's almost malicious competitive streak.

"We're a very competitive team," Walker said. "When they see an opposing runner in front of them, they want to take him down."

The wins moved the boys and girls records to 6-0 and 3-3 respectively. Walker said the objective of his squad was to win conference, and he believed he had seen more than enough to give him great confidence that goal would be easily accomplished.

"We want to win conference, that's our goal for sure," Walker said. "We're well on our way.

North Clay competes on Saturday at South Knox beginning at 9 a.m.
