A three-vehicle accident on United States 40 Wednesday resulted in a man being transported to the hospital.

Officials were dispatched near the corner of Lambert Street and U.S. 40 in front of Walgreens at approximately 10 a.m., for the three-vehicle fender-bender.

According to Brazil Police Department officials, the driver of a 2003 Ford Van, Timothy Shelton, 53, Terre Haute, said he looked away from the road for a second while heading eastbound on U.S. 40. When he looked back up, he did not have time to stop before hitting a 2008 Chevrolet four-door vehicle, driven by Albert L. Riggle, 58.

The impact forced Riggle's vehicle into a 1998 silver Cadillac driven by Ellen King, 68, Clay County.

Riggle complained of back and neck pain at the scene and was later transported to Union Hospital, Terre Haute, via TransCare.

Traffic was diverted to south Lambert Street as officials worked the scene.

According to officials, no citations were issued.

Also responding to the scene were the Brazil Fire Department, Beasley Towing and Clay County Search and Rescue.
