Northview netters sweep past Vikings

TERRE HAUTE -- The Northview tennis team moved another step closer to claiming the WIC title by downing West Vigo on the road Thursday evening, 5-0.

The Knights were straight set winners in each of the five matches and also won the JV contest, 3-1.

In singles play, Caleb Mershon won a 6-2, 6-0 victory with Carson Kleiber taking down his opponent at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2. In the No. 3 singles match, Trent Sims went extras in the first set to win 7-5 and then won the second set by a 6-2 score.

Coach Mark Orr was pleased with how his singles players utilized what the team has been working on in practice, in the match with the Vikings.

"The singles players all came to the net and made some great putaways. We continue to work hard on this in practice," Orr said.

In the doubles matches, the Knights' duo of Joey Thomas and Caleb Andrews picked up a 6-3, 6-0 victory with Dillon Reynolds and Sam Miller teaming up to win at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-0.

"This was another win towards winning the conference. The doubles continue to play in control and set each other up well," Orr said.

Northview hits the road for another key WIC match on Monday with South Vermillion.

Junior varsity: Northview wins 3-1.
