Eels compete against top cross country teams at South Knox

VINCENNES -- The Clay City cross country program took on some of the top small school teams in the southern half of the state on Saturday while competing at the South Knox Invite.

The Eels placed fourth as a team with 93 points as Barr-Reeve won the meet with 51 points followed by Evansville Mater Dei (67) and Eastern (Greene) 89. North Knox, South Knox, Shakamak, North Posey and Linton wrapped up the boys' team scoring.

The Eels were led by Parker Modesitt's 10th-place in 18:00 with Jessie Vansvickle in 19th (18:35) and Conner Modesitt in 20th with a time of 18:39. Ben Denker was close behind in 21st (18:41) and Austin Sinders (28th) and Landry Moss (51st) capped the Eels competitors.

In the girls' competition, Clay City ran several runners in the freshman/sophomore race and Tiffani Goodman was the winner in 25:00. Kaleigh Decker was fifth in 29:02 and Ashley Sumner was seventh in 29:48.

The Eels compete against Northview and West Vigo at Craig Park on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
