North Clay dominates Royals; cross country teams have success

North Clay's volleyball teams were too much for Chauncey Rose to handle on the road Monday evening.

The seventh-grade Knights powered to a 25-12, 25-0 win as Whitney Halfhill served up 25 points with six aces and Kenzie Mager added six points with an ace. Tallying three points each were Lainey Latham and Madison Nevins with Shea Britton adding two points with an ace and a kill. Sydney Buell contributed an ace and Abbey Timberman had an assist.

In the eighth-grade contest, North Clay romped to a 25-4, 25-13 victory led by an eight-point night from Lindsey Potter and seven points from Kayla Watson. Audrey Clark added in six points with an assist and Shelbi Morris tallied five points, a kill and an ace. Libby Deckard, Leslie Ringo and Lorrie LaTourette each had a kill, Andi Harting had five points and an ace and Katie Girton chipped in with an ace.

Both teams are now 11-0 overall and visit Woodrow Wilson on Thursday at 5 p.m.

North Clay cross country

VINCENNES -- The North Clay cross country teams took part in the South Knox Invite on Saturday afternoon and the Knights came away with some strong showings at the meet.

Nic Yocom continued his assault on various course records, topping the previous South Knox record by one second in 10:04 to win the meet. Ian Heffner placed sixth in 10:41 as North Clay finished second as a team to Clark. North Clay scored 69 points to finish seven points back as Otter Creek took third ahead of Washington, Castle, Gibson Southern, Princeton, Southridge and Pike Central.

Also for North Clay, Travis Beil placed 29th in 11:42 with Cam Trout placing 39th in 11:57. Five spots behind Trout was Brendan Morris in 44th with a time of 12:06 and Josua Johnson crossed the finish line in 12:34, good for 65th position. Brennen Pilman wrapped up North Clay in 98th with a time of 13:47.

In the girls' meet, North Clay took home fifth-place overall with 134 points to finish behind Otter Creek's 33, Gibson Southern's 70, Clark's 77 and Princeton's 126. Southridge was sixth ahead of Castle, Pike Central and Washington.

Emily Conrad led the Knights in seventh with a time of 12:23 and Allie Dupin was 13th in 12:45. In 43rd was Kaysia Reberger in 13:56, Leeanna Knight was 47th in 14:02 and Brittany Fagg was 77th in 15:01.

North Clay runs in the Shakamak Invitational on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
