The following is a list of upcoming events provided to The Brazil Times:

Trash Pickup

The City of Brazil has announced one more heavy trash pickup day for 2009.

The date will take place Friday, Oct. 23.

Call in advance at 448-8501 or 443-2221.

There will be a new program starting in 2010.

Meeting set

Clay County Friends of the Wabash Valley Right to Life group will conduct its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, in the meeting room at the Brazil Public Library.

Anyone interested in joining the organization is welcome.

The organization hopes to reach many residents and educate about Right to Life. Its goal is to support the Wabash Valley Right to Life group in the many outreach programs it has.

Tourney set

The first Reelsville Ragball Tournament will take place Oct. 2-3.

All entries must be made by Oct. 1.

The tournament will feature co-ed teams of 10-12 players each. Entry fee for the tournament is $125 per team. Team entry will be returned to the winners.

All proceeds will go to the Reelsville Youth League.

Pioneer Days

The Vigo County Park and Recreation Department will celebrate the 37th Fowler Park Pioneer Days Oct. 3-4, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Parking is $2 for each full day.

Fowler Park is located south of Terre Haute on United States 41.

Fish Fry!

Jackson Township Elementary School will sponsor an all-you-can-eat Jonah Fish Fry from 4-7 p.m., Friday, Oct 2.

The meal will include fish, sides, dessert and drink.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children. Preschool children eat for free.

All proceeds from the event will help pay for field trips, awards, convocations and more.

Jackson Township Elementary School is located at 1860 E. CR 600 N., Brazil.

Life Chain event

The 18th Terre Haute Life Chain will take place at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4.

The event is an international hour of prayer for the nation and a peaceful, prayerful public witness on behalf of the unborn at risk of abortion.

Life Chain participants will stand and pray on sidewalks of major roadways in cities across the nation and Canada, holding signs.

Gathering and parking will take place behind the Vigo County Courthouse.

The Churchmen, an established award-winning Bluegrass Gospel group from Virginia, will appear at 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4, at Union Christian Church, 5350 E. Hulman Dr., Terre Haute.

There is no cost for the concert.

Homemaker events

The Clay County Extension Homemakers will present "Ordinary things used in extraordinary ways," at 10 a.m., Oct. 6.

In addition, at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 27, "Christmas in Norway," will be presented during Homemakers Week, by Sue Berg.

Meeting set

The Harmony Town Council will conduct its October meeting, in conjunction with the final budget, at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13, rather than Tuesday, Oct. 6.

The meeting will take place at the Harmony Community Center.

Crochet Basics

Crochet a cotton washcloth at the Brazil Public Library beginning Oct. 8.

The class will run three weeks beginning Thursday, Oct. 8, and continuing on Oct. 15 and Oct. 22. Classes will begin at 6 p.m.

Space is limited to 10 participants. Cost for the class is $12.

Supplies will be furnished. Pre-registration and pre-payment will be required and the library will not take registrations over the phone.
