Keeping a free, family-oriented 4th of July Celebration as part of this community's history and tradition is one local project the Rotary Club of Brazil has been committed to for the last 74 years.
As planning for this event got underway, meetings were driven by the love of our Nation and the need to celebrate our freedom. The USA was approaching its seventh year of war in Iraq. News and headlines stirred readers with hope upon the election of our first minority President, but were also filled with angst and concern about our nation's struggle economically.
Our club members have felt the sting of layoffs and changing work situation, the hope of new jobs and company expansion, faced illness and health care concerns, welcome new life or the loss of loved ones, and we know that come feast or famine, we are in it just like the rest.
These 48 men and women are from this community and do their best to remain positive -- with their intentions set upon service above self. We bring the celebration of our nation's freedom to all who wish to share in it. Thank you to all the Brazil Rotarians who sacrifice their 4th of July each year to work in the park and make sure the carnival still goes on.
The Rotary Club of Brazil wishes to thank all those who helped make the 74th Brazil Rotary 4th of July Celebration a success. Many in the community are unable to give their own time personally, but offer support in other ways. These businesses graciously contributed financially to fund our nightly entertainment and so we thank our Gold Sponsors: Clay County Podiatry -- Dr. Miranda Goodale, Avenue Broadband, Emmert GMAC Real Estate and 92.7 FM-The Crock.
Also Silver Sponsors: First Financial Bank, Allstate Insurance -- Ted Paris, Dr. Alicia Reed-Thomas, Bob Bowen Ford, The Brazil Times, Century 21, Hometown Realty, Clover Signs, Eye Care Specialists -- Nilah Nicole Bonham, O.D., Hoosier Homes and Land, IVC Industrial Coatings, Riddell National Bank, State Farm Insurance -- John Howes, Terre Haute Savings Bank, Tony Smiley -- First Security Insurance, Sam's Do It Best Hardware, Adamson's Portable Restrooms, Wallace Brothers and Wetnight RV.
Without a beautiful location, Forest Park, and the help of our city administration, area schools, local law enforcement and emergency personnel, this event could never happen.
We sincerely thank the City of Brazil, Brazil City Parks Board, Park Supt. Bill Houck, Brazil Police Department, Clay County Sheriff's Department, Sheriff's Posse and TransCare Ambulance Co. We would also like to thank the Clay Community School Corporation and especially Forest Park School for the use of their grounds to set up the fireworks and we thank the Forest Park Golf Course and Pro Mark Rogers for their support and use of fairways for viewing the amazing fireworks display by Mark Adamson and Aerial Arts.
A huge thank you also goes to Northview High School and Color Guard, North Clay Middle School Band and Guard, Clay City Jr./Sr. High and all the band boosters. We so appreciate the efforts of the Clay County YMCA with its annual Firecracker Run. The Brazil Concert Band and conductor Matt Huber, we thank for the use of their beautiful facility and for their awesome concerts. This year, we also appreciated the first-time participation by the Community Theatre of Clay County, plus long-time participants, such as Cindy's Dance Studio, Moore's Dance Company, Toni's Tumbling and Dance and Tumble Express.
There was also much appreciated local media coverage, including The Brazil Times and Crossroads Communications, as well as The News, WTWO-TV2 and WTHI-TV10.

So, thank you to all who donate to our event and support this community project.
We also thank everyone who attends our event and gives Rotary the chance to return that support to our community through weekly lunch programs, scholarships and many community project grants.
Next year will be the 75th year of the Rotary Celebration, so mark your calendar for the week leading up to July 4, and please join us next year.
