William R. Kirchner, 68, Florence, Ky., formerly of Brazil, passed away Oct. 7, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family.
He had been battling cancer for the past several months.
He was born Feb. 15, 1941, in Vigo County, the son of Orville William Kirchner and Dorothy Jeanne Fitzpatrick Kirchner.
He graduated from Staunton High School, class of 1958. On Dec. 19, 1980, Bill married Carolyn Bond Kirchner.
Bill worked for Amax Coal Company for more than 30 years, retiring from the Chinook Coal Mine in 1996. For the last 20 years, he served as the general manager of the mine.
He was a member of the Brazil Elks Lodge.
He was a long time Dodgers fan. He was currently attending the Seven Hills Church. He had attended Christ Community Church before they moved from the Brazil area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and son Anthony Kirchner.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn Kirchner, Florence, Ky., son Scott Kirchner and wife Tricia, Tampa, Fla., daughter Cathy Bennett and husband Bill, Hebron, Ky., stepson Shane Brosey and wife Nicole, Lawrenceburg, Ind., stepdaughter Christie Fargis and husband Steve, Richmond, Va., grandchildren Anthony, Connor and Jacob Kirchner, Cristen Long and husband John and Tre Bennett, Emily and Tyler Brosey, and Alexander Fargis, great-grandchildren Brady Bennett, Emma Bennett and Alyssa Key, sister Susie Gilbert and husband Allan, Greencastle, nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Services will take place at 3 p.m., Saturday, at French Funeral Home, with Rev. M. Gene Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon-3 p.m., Saturday.
