County bands search for perfection this weekend

With a week between District and Regional contests, both the Clay City Imperial Regiment and Northview Marching Knights have one more contest to perfect their 2009 shows.

The Marching Knights will compete in the Cavalcade of Bands at Center Grove Saturday, while the Imperial Regiment will take part in the Preview of Champions at Ben Davis.

Northview is scheduled to take the field at 8:23 p.m. The Marching Knights are the last of eight Class B bands to perform at Center Grove.

Class B competition will begin at 6:52 p.m., with New Palestine, followed by Plainfield (7:05 p.m.), Whiteland (7:18 p.m.), Greenfield-Central (7:31 p.m.), Bloomington North (7:44 p.m.), Jasper (7:57 p.m.), and Pendleton Heights (8:10 p.m.).

Competition at Center Grove is scheduled to begin at 3:52 p.m., with Class D bands.

Awards in Class B will be presented at approximately 10:15 p.m., following the Class A competition.

All of the Class B bands competing Saturday at Center Grove advanced to regional competition last week.

The Imperial Regiment is the first Class D band to take the field at Ben Davis, as Clay City is scheduled to perform at 10 a.m.

Elwood will follow at 10:13 a.m., while Monrovia will take the field at 10:26 a.m. Tri-County will perform at 10:39 a.m.

Awards for Class D will be presented following Class C competition.

All four Class D bands performing at Ben Davis Saturday also have advanced to regional competition.

Both Clay City and Northview will compete in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Evansville Central High School Regional, set for Saturday, Oct. 17.

Class B bands scheduled to perform at the regional include Mooresville (5:04 p.m.), Cathedral (5:17 p.m.), New Palestine (5:30 p.m.), Northview (5:43 p.m.), Whiteland (5:56 p.m.), Evansville Central (6:09 p.m.), and Floyd Central (6:22 p.m.), before a break.

Following the break, F.J. Reitz will take the field at 6:48 p.m., followed by Evansville Harrison (7:01 p.m.), Jasper (7:14 p.m.), Greenwood (7:27 p.m.), Bloomington North (7:40 p.m.), Plainfield (7:53 p.m.), and Evansville North (8:06 p.m.).

Class D bands scheduled to perform at the regional include North Posey (11 a.m.), Henryville (11:13 a.m.), Eastern (Pekin) (11:26 a.m.), Tell City (11:39 a.m.), South Spencer (11:52 a.m.), Perry Central (12:05 p.m.), Springs Valley (12:18 p.m.), and Southridge (12:31 p.m.), before a break in the action.

Following the break, Orleans will perform at 12:57 p.m., followed by Clay City (1:10 p.m.), Paoli (1:23 p.m.), Borden (1:36 p.m.), Monrovia (1:49 p.m.), Forest Park (2:02 p.m.), New Washington (2:15 p.m.), and Crawford County (2:28 p.m.).

If the Marching Knights advance beyond regional competition, they will take part in semistate in Indianapolis.

If the Imperial Regiment advances past regional, they will compete at Franklin Community.

Semistate competition is scheduled to take place Saturday, Oct. 24.

The ISSMA State Finals are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31, at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis.

* Merge on to Interstate-70 east toward Indianapolis,

* Take exit 73B to merge on to I-465 N/I-74 W,

* Take exit 14B for 10th Street,

* Merge on to W. 10th Street, and

* Turn right at North Girls School Road, The high school is on the left.

The following are directions to get from Clay County to Center Grove High School, located at 2717 S. Morgantown Rd., Greenwood:

* Merge on to I-70 east toward Indianapolis,

* Take exit 59 for State Road 39 toward Belleville/Monrovia,

* Turn right at SR 39,

* Take the first left on to E. CR 1000 S,

* Continue on West Greencastle Road,

* Turn right at South Monroe Street,

* Turn left at West High Street,

* Continue on SR 144,

* Turn left at SR 37,

* Take the second right on to Stones Crossing Road, and

* Turn right at CR 500 W (south Morgantown Road). The high school is on the left.
