Knights place first; Eels second

In the final contest before Indiana State School Music Association Regional competition begins, the Northview Marching Knights took to the field Saturday afternoon in the Cavalcade of Champions at Center Grove High School, coming away with another first-place finish.

The Knights scored 80.50 to lead all Class B bands in the competition. Northview also captured the Music, General Effect and People's Choice awards.

Jasper finished second with a score of 78.50, followed by Bloomington North (73.50), Plainfield (72.70), Greenfield-Central (72.10), Whiteland (67.60), Pendleton Heights (66.20) and New Palestine (66.00).

Jasper also won Best Visual at the performance.

In Class D action Saturday, the Clay City Imperial Regiment competed in the Preview of Champions at Ben Davis High School, coming away with a second-place finish.

Monrovia won Class D, while Elwood placed third and Tri-County was fourth.

Clay City also won Percussion and Drum Major awards at the show. Monrovia captured Best Music, Visual, General Effect and Auxiliary.

Both bands will begin ISSMA regional marching band competition Saturday, Oct. 17.

The Marching Knights and Imperial Regiment will compete at the Evansville Central Regional.

Clay City is scheduled to take the field at 1:10 p.m., Saturday, and is one of 16 Class D bands competing in the event.

The remaining Class D bands include North Posey, Henryville, Eastern (Pekin), Tell City, South Spencer, Perry Central, Springs Valley, Southridge, Orleans, Paoli, Borden, Monrovia, Forest Park, New Washington, and Crawford County.

Northview is scheduled to perform at 5:43 p.m., Saturday.

Other Class B bands performing include Mooresville, Cathedral, New Palestine, Whiteland, Evansville Central, Floyd Central, F.J. Reitz, Evansville Harrison, Jasper, Greenwood, Bloomington North, Plainfield, and Evansville North.

ISSMA semistate action is scheduled for Oct. 24, while the 2009 State Finals will take place Saturday, Oct. 31, at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Halie Hite was at our contest last week she was the only star in the sky we all saw it and we know she hasn't left yet.
