She was born April 26, 1915, in Brazil. She was the daughter of Homer H. Michael and Retta B. (Russel) Michael.
She attended Brazil High School and later graduated from IVY Tech where she earned a nursing degree.
She worked at the Quaker Maid Factory for nine years. She retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Clay County Hospital after working there for 14 years. Along with working as a nurse, Mary was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother.
She enjoyed reading, needle point sewing and collecting porcelain dolls. She was a member of the Turner Community Church.
In 1975, she was united in marriage to Berthel "Bert" Dickison, who preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1983. Also preceding her death was a brother and a sister. Homer Michael Jr. was killed in Luxembourg, Germany in 1945, and sister Bessie L. Sanders died in 1991. Also, a daughter Jacqueline Dickison died in 1992. Preceding her in death, besides her parents, was two nephews Robert L. Sanders and Melvin Wayne Sanders, both of Brazil, two brothers and two sisters in infancy: Omer E. Michael and Lewis T. Michael, Daisy Mae Michael and Goldie Belle Michael, son-in-law Brother Dale Dickison, as well as several other relatives.
Survivors include her two sons Michael Elson, Brazil, and Robert Elson and wife Marilyn, Terre Haute, grandchildren Kyle Dickison, Chris Dickison, Mary Youngblood, Katy Elson and Cole Elson, 13 great-grandchildren, and a niece Betty Bryant, Brazil.
Services for Mary will be at French Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m., until time of services.
