The following is a list of upcoming events provided to The Brazil Times:

Decorated for donations!

The Brazil Times will pick a newsstand box where all proceeds from the stand will go to a charity.

The box will be decorated for indication. All proceeds from any decorated box this month will go to breast cancer research. This month's decorated newspaper box is located at McDonald's in Brazil.

Different charities will be selected in the coming months.

Those interested in donating money need to keep an eye out for a decorated newsstand.

Salute to Soldiers

The Brazil Times' Salute to Soldiers dedications will end on Veterans Day, which is Wednesday, Nov. 11.

To honor any soldiers, stop by our office Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Include a photograph and a brief description of service.

Change of Date

The Wesley Chapel Food Pantry normally takes place on the third Saturday of each month.

However, the date for October has been pushed back to oct. 24, as the chapel, located at 8386 N. State Road 59, will be serving breakfast beginning at 7 a.m., Saturday.

Cost is $2 for a breakfast sandwich, $3 for pancakes and sausage or $1 for sausage and gravy. Drinks will cost $1.

The public is invited to attend the event.

Trash Pickup

The City of Brazil has announced one more heavy trash pickup day for 2009.

The date will take place Friday, Oct. 23.

There will be a new program starting in 2010.

Fish Fry!

The R.E.I.N. Community Center Library has scheduled a Jonah Fish Fry from 4-7:30 p.m., Friday.

The event will take place in the Orange Building at Goshorn Memorial Park, 200 Nye St., Clay City.

The menu will consist of fish, baked beans, green beans, cole slaw or applesauce, bread, tea or lemonade. Dessert will be available but is not included in the menu.

Cost is $7 for adults in advance and $3.50 for children. Cost at the door will be $7.50 for adults and $4 for children.

Live entertainment will be provided from 6-7 p.m.

Advance tickets are currently available at both Clay City banks and the Clay City Pharmacy.

All proceeds will go toward the new community building for Clay City.

Carry out will be available.

Haunted House!

The Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department will host a haunted firehouse from 7 p.m.-midnight, Friday and Saturday.

There will be games and food available. Dance costumes are optional.

Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children. Children 4-under will be admitted free.

Turkey Supper!

The Bowling Green Order of the Eastern Star will host a Turkey Supper from 4-8 p.m., Saturday.

The event will take place at the Bowling Green Community Center. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children. Drinks and desserts are included in the meal and carryout will be available.

All are invited to attend.

Women's Day!

Second Missionary Baptist Church, 545 E. Jackson St., Brazil, will conduct a Women's Day, at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18.

Light refreshments will be available. The guest speaker for the event will be Donna Russell.

All are invited to attend.

Meeting set

The Clay County Democrats will conduct its next meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Senior Citizen's Center, 120 S. Franklin St., Brazil.

State Representatives Nancy Michael and Clyde Kersey will be the guest speakers.

The public is welcome to attend.

Yard Sale

The House of Hope, 5525 United States 40, Brazil, will conduct a giant yard sale Saturday, Oct. 24.

A chili dinner is planned, which will include corn bread and hot dogs. A $5 donation will cover each platter served.

The yard sale is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., and platters will be served from noon-6 p.m.

The yard sale will progress throughout the evening.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Janice Doubles and One Voice Christian Contemporary Band. The performance is free and will begin at 7:30 p.m.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the general needs and bills of the ministry.

A tour and explanation of the organization's program will be available by staff members at the event.

Hog Roast

A hog roast fundraising benefit for the Rescue and Adoption Center at the Clay County Animal Rescue, Inc., will take place at the Orange Building at Clay City Park, from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24.

Cost for adults is $10, while cost for children 6-12-years-old will be $5. Children 5-under will be admitted free.

There will also be a silent auction to raise money, with numbered tickets being sold to help raise money for the animals at the raffle at 4 p.m.

For an extra $1 at the door, the ticket will be placed in a jar and pulled for a prize.

The Clay County Senior Center will host a Euchre Tournament at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24.

Cost is $10 and all proceeds will go to the United Way. Those interested in participating must make a reservation.

Garden seminar

The Wabash Valley Master Gardeners will conduct a seminar from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Girl Scout Headquarters, located at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute.

Cost is $25, which includes breakfast and lunch.

The Bee Ridge Congregational Church will conduct an all-you-can-eat Jonah Fish Fry from 4-8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Kennedy Crossing Bingo Center (across from the Northview baseball field).

Price for adults is $8 and children 12-under will be admitted for $5. Children 2-under will be admitted for free.

The menu will consist of two sides (baked or green beans, applesauce or coleslaw), drink and dessert. Single pieces of fish will be available for $1 each and fish sandwiches will cost $2.

Chamber meeting

Indiana State Representative for District 44 Nancy Michael (D-Greencastle) will be the guest speaker for the Clay County Chamber of Commerce at noon, Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the St. Vincent Clay Hospital Annex on the east side of the main drive to the hospital's main entrance off United States 40.

The meeting is open to the public. Michael will speak on current legislation status and will field questions from the audience.

Chili Supper!

The Clay County Retired Teachers Association has scheduled a chili supper for 6 p.m., Oct. 27.

The event will take place at Kennedy's Crossing, just north of State Road 340 past Northview High School.

There will be several items to be raffled to lucky winners, including a four-gallon backpack sprayer.

There will be gift certificates for Olive Garden and Red Lobster in addition to other door prizes.

There is no charge to attend the event.

Wanted: Vendors

Vendors are needed for Beta Sigma Phi's annual Holiday Bazaar.

The event is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at Linton High School.
