NASHVILLE -- Consistent rain throughout the week and another dose of drizzle on Friday night provided cross country runners a messy course for the Brown County Regional on Saturday.

Terre Haute North's John Mascari and Tapring Goatee didn't seem to be fazed by the conditions as each runner came away with a win on the sloppy Brown County course. The Patriots also came away with regional team titles to go with a sectional crown as the boys' team cruised past Bloomington South easily, 28 to 61 for its third straight regional title. The girls matched the boys' title by defeating Bloomington South, 28 to 36.

Muddy conditions that, at times, reached runners ankles and made for some treacherous footing, basically rendered times useless for comparisons, but showed the mettle of the runners.

Mascari was challenged throughout the race by Martinsville's Jace Lowry before he pulled away late to win by nine seconds in 16:10. Goatee meanwhile took off with teammate Chanli Mundy and the two stayed in the same positions with the freshmen 16 seconds apart. Goatee's winning time was 19:03.

The Northview Knights top-finisher was Conor Strain, whose career concluded with a 28th-place finisher in a time of 17:57. Alyssa Conrad led the girls' squad with a 33rd-place in 22:57.

The top-15 individuals advanced to the semi-state next weekend on the same course.
