She was born may 21, 1924, to Claude "Birdie" and Lillie May (Martin) Walker. She graduated from Van Buren High School with the class of 1942. She worked at Bridgeport Brass during World War II.
Jean married John K. Irwin April 24, 1946. She worked at Pell's in Brazil and sold Avon for several years. She spent much of her time taking care of her family. She was a member of the Knightsville United Methodist Church and the Home Economics Club. Jean enjoyed playing Bunco, crocheting, reading, oil painting, flower gardening and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Lola Nesty, Sanford Walker, Claude Walker, Cora Wyndham, Sarah Webster, Vallie Pittman, and an infant, Jackie Walker.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years John, son Johnny K. Irwin (Peggy), Brazil, daughter Melody Barnhart (Steve), Knightsville, grandchildren Kevin Barnhart (Karla), Tammy Pennington (Eric), P.J. Irwin (Lindsey), and Lacy Irwin (Ben), great-grandchildren Riley, Lexy, Erick, Kemper, Arlie, Chloe and Benjamin, brother Glenn Walker (Marie) and sister Jayne Bagal, sisters-in-law Donna Irwin, Mary Pruett and Lois Irwin, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be at French Funeral Home at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, with Pastor Ernie Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of services.
