Roy Frederick Hunter, 80, Brazil, died at 6 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Brazil, as the son of Roy W. and Susan Mishler Hunter.

He graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1948 and on Sept. 9, 1950, he married the former Martha Jane Morgan.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951, and served for four years. During this time, he was trained in technical schools and worked as a control tower operator at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois and Smokey Hills, Kansas.

Later, he worked as a FAA Tower Operator at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago.

In 1957, he transferred to the newly opened Hulman Field Airport, where he worked until his retirement in 1985.

Besides being an avid golfer, Roy enjoyed hunting in Colorado for several years and summer trips with his family to Gulf Shores, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Martha Jane Hunter, daughter Jane Neier, son Roy Hunter and wife Cathy, grandchildren Carrie Metz and husband Tom, Amy Neier and Hannah Hunter, sister Suzanne Hunter Howes and husband Leroy, and several nieces and nephews.

Moore Funeral Home was chosen to provide cremation services. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

The family would like to thank Johnny Tabaso and the staff of Hospice of the Wabash Valley for their wonderful and compassionate care of Roy during his illness with ALS.
