Knights drop in marching poll

For the first time during the 2009 season, the Northview Marching Knights fell out of first place in the www.indianamarching.com writer's poll.

The Knights compete in Class B and maintained the top spot in the poll every week this season until Monday.

Jasper moved from second in last week's poll to the top spot this week, garnering 117 votes, including five first-place votes.

The Marching Knights received 115 votes in this week's poll, including three first-place votes.

Greenwood is third this week with 101 votes while Concord came in fourth with 99 votes. DeKalb is ranked fifth with 84 votes while Plainfield is sixth with 75 votes and New Castle is seventh with 73 votes.

Northridge ranks eighth with 72 votes while Floyd Central is ninth with 53 votes and Bloomington North rounds out the top 10 with 51 votes.

Receiving honorable mention this week were Zionsville, Greenfield-Central, North Side, East Noble and Mt. Vernon (Fortville).

The Marching Knights will compete in the 2009 Indiana State School Music Association State Finals Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Northview is scheduled to take the field at 10:52 a.m.

All of the top-10 ranked bands this week will compete in the state finals. The Marching Knights won the 2008 Class B ISSMA state title.

The Clay City Imperial Regiment did not make the state finals this year after placing 10th overall last year.

However, The Imperial Regiment did receive honorable mention in the final poll of the season, along with Bluffton, Orleans, Morristown and South Spencer.

Heading into the final week of the season, Springs Valley is the top-ranked Class D band, tallying 120 votes, including all eight first-place votes.

Springs Valley will compete in the state finals Saturday and is scheduled to perform at 5:02 p.m.
