Benefit slated for area man

Thursday, October 29, 2009
A benefit for a cancer stricken man with local ties has been set to take place in November.

Just last month, Clay Sheffer, 23, Terre Haute, was diagnosed with Thymoma Cancer.

Thymoma Cancer strikes the thymus, a small gland that lies under the breastbone and is also part of the lymph system.

The thymus produces white blood cells, called lymphocytes, which help the body fight infection.

Currently, Sheffer is undergoing double chemotherapy sessions.

He is married and has a 2-year-old boy.

Family relative Debbie Hrpcha told The Brazil Times a benefit auction has been scheduled to help offset medical costs for the family.

She said the event will take place at the Dick Johnson Community House. It is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., Monday, Nov. 21.

Hrpcha said an auction, chili supper and Karaoke have been set for the benefit.

Cost for the chili supper is a $5 donation for the family.

In addition, all proceeds from the auction will go to benefit the family.
