She was born Nov. 22, 1935, in Brazil, the daughter of Oliver and Mary Coltharp.
Mrs. Holmes was a graduate of Van Buren High School in Clay County, and was a buyer for Community Hospital East for 37 years.
She was a member of Speedway United Methodist Church, American Legion Unit 500 Ladies Auxiliary, Past Department President Indiana State American Legion Auxiliary, was active in Hoosier Girls State and was a volunteer at Ronald McDonald House.
Mrs. Holmes served on the governor's advisory council for the Indiana Soldier's and Sailor's Children's Home in Knightstown and received the Sagamore of the Wabash from Gov. Frank O'Bannon.
The family extends its gratitude to the staff of Yellow Rose Hospice of Methodist Hospital.
She is survived by her husband Jim Holmes, daughter Kathy Jean Holmes, sister Barbara (Sherman) Gardner, brother Jacob Michael (Cindy) Coltharp, brother-in-law John (Leslie) Holmes, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway Chapel, with visitation from 3-8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery.
