Vivian Mathis Smith, 94, Rockville, died at 5:45 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Cloverleaf Healthcare in Knightsville.

She was born May 27, 1915, in Benwood, Ind., in Clay County, as the daughter of Samuel and Zeta Wilson Tucker.

She graduated from Van Buren High School with the class of 1934. She was a member of the Christian Science Church and Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 8, District 8.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Clyde Mathis in 1965, and Ralph L. Smith in 1988, brothers Wilson, Arthur and Walter Tucker, and sister Genevieve Mayle.

She is survived by sons Dane L. Mathis, Los Angeles, and Matt Mathis and wife Rochelle, Rockville, sister Pauline Brown, Harmony, grandsons Shawn Mathis, Lakewood, Colo., and Dale Mathis and wife Alicia, Rockville, great-grandchildren Ryan David and Abigail Claire Mathis and sisters-in-law Virginia Mathis and Priscilla Tucker.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Moore Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, with Pastor Rick Thomas officiating.

Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
