Northview High School will be the site for the 10th annual Indiana Bandmasters Association West Central All-District Honor Band concert Sunday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m.
The event will take place at the Northview Auditorium.
The concert is free and open to the public.
The band will be composed of 100 high school students from 18 different schools in west central Indiana. Students were selected for the band based on nominations by their band directors.
This year's guest conductor will be Mickey Stisher, director of bands at LaPorte High School, LaPorte, Ind. Stisher has held the position of Director of Music at LaPorte since 1988.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Instrumental Music Education from Ball State University and a Master of Music Performance Degree in Wind Conducting from Louisiana State University, where he served as Conducting Intern with Frank Wickes.
Previous positions for Stisher include Associate Director of Bands at Jefferson City High School in Missouri, and Director of Bands at Yorktown High School in Indiana.
Bands under his direction have performed at the Orange, Fiesta and Citrus Bowl Parades and Field Competitions, the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade, Disney World's EPCOT Center and Magic Kingdom, both the ISSMA State Concert Band and Marching Band Finals, both Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers' games, he has been named Honor Band at numerous jazz festivals and performed at the Indiana Music Educators Association State Convention.
Stisher is the Vice President of the Indiana Bandmasters Association, the Indiana State Chairman for the National Band Association, a two-time past President of the Indiana State School Music Association, a past Secretary of the International Association of Jazz Educators Indiana Unit, and the Contest Director for the Midwest Color Guard Circuit.
In 2006, he was named the Outstanding Indiana Bandmaster by the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity and in 2007, he was the recipient of the Chicagoland Outstanding High School Music Educator Award.
He was also inducted into the Midwest Color Guard Circuit Hall of Fame in 2009.
A former Drum Corps Midwest Judges Guild, he left the judging community to become a member of the brass staff for the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps of Toledo, Ohio, in 2000.
In 2008, he joined the brass staff of the Boston Crusaders and Bugle Corps of Boston, Mass.
He is also both founder and director of the National Band Association Indiana All-Star Marching Band featured annually in the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade.
