He was born July 23, 1923, in Clay County, the son of Wayne and Carrie Wellman Royer.
Gib graduated from Cory High School. He married Mary Gard July 24, 1943. Shortly before their marriage, he joined the United States Army Air Force where he served during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he joined the Air Force Reserve retiring as a Staff Sergeant. Gib worked as a Senior Lab Technician for Commercial Solvents, Terre Haute, retiring in 1987. Gib was a member the Saline City United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, and deacon. In 1972, Gib moved his family to the Cory area and became a member of the Cory Zion Church. While at the church, he served as a deacon for several years. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed bowling, golf, softball, fishing and playing basketball.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Royer, son Stanley Royer, his parents and sister Betty Jane Royer.
He is survived by two daughters Linda Diehl and Dianna Marrs, two sisters Annamae Jackson and Martha Rickert, brother Jimmie Royer, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, four step great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
At his request cremation will take place. Memorial services will be conducted at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at 4 p.m., with Dr. Jerry Caskey and Rev. William Reidel officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday, from 2 p.m., until time of services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
