According to information provided by the Vigo County Sheriff's Department, family members reported Amber Wills, 16, missing from her home on East Rio Grande Avenue, located near the northern part of the Clay/Vigo county lines, sometime after 10:30 p.m., Oct. 31.
Her father believes she left their residence in the late night hours of Oct. 31st or the early morning hours of Nov. 1st.
Because the ongoing investigation involves other juveniles, officials will not release the names of those involved to protect the integrity of the case.
Vigo County Sheriff's Department Detective Clayton White told The Brazil Times Wills was considered a "runaway" in the initial phase of the investigation. However, as the investigation continued, White said officials became concerned because Wills needed daily medication.
"She was upgraded and reclassified as missing/endangered on Tuesday," White said.
The Brazil City Police Department became involved in the investigation on Nov. 6.
As Wills' friends and acquaintances in the Brazil area continued to report to authorities they had no knowledge as to her whereabouts, White said worry set in about the potential outcome of the case.
"We were very concerned about her well being," he said. "It was a long time to be missing without any contact."
However, after 12 days, officials received an anonymous tip confirming Wills was alive and in the Brazil area with her unidentified 16-year-old boyfriend.
"I'm glad we found them when we did," White said, adding information came to light that the couple was allegedly making plans to leave the area to go to Indianapolis.
White confirmed Wills was taken into custody Thursday evening and transported to the Vigo County Juvenile Center before being released into the custody of her family Friday afternoon.
White confirmed Wills' boyfriend was taken into custody amid allegations of obstruction of justice around 5:30 p.m., Friday evening. The juvenile was transported to the Vigo County Juvenile Center and is expected to remain in custody until formal court proceedings can be scheduled per the calendar on Monday.
