Teacher's Sorority Honors Charter Member

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

On Wednesday, Nov. 4, Alpha Delta Kappa, teacher's sorority, had a surprise 90th birthday party for Ethel Frost, by honoring her as one of its founding charter members. Her achievements over the 45 years of her membership to the sorority were read, and members reminisced about different events in which Ethel participated. Also, members enjoyed looking through the original scrapbook showing many activities that included her.

Forty five years ago, Ethel worked with members of Eta Chapter of Plainfield laying the groundwork for a Clay County chapter of ADK and recruiting members. The Eta Chapter of Plainfield also was involved in organizing a chapter in Terre Haute at the same time. In December 1964, Clay County's Xi Chapter and Vigo County's Omicron Chapter were both activated at the same time. Ten members were initiated into each chapter.

Ethel was elected the first president of the newly formed Xi chapter and has been a loyal and active member since. She has attended chapter meetings regularly for the past 45 years. She attended the State Convention each year and attended the International Convention several times.

She was presented with a framed poem by fellow member Kitty Pettit that related the highlights of Ethel's years with ADK. Each member present signed the poem before it was presented to her.

It was pointed out that Ethel has been a member of ADK for half her life, and her fellow sorority sisters wish her many more active years.
