ROCKVILLE -- The Clay City Eels overcame a scoreless second quarter and first half foul trouble to top Rockville on the road 40-33 on Monday night.

The Eels picked up the win by hitting 11-of-17 free throws in the fourth quarter as Rockville was atrocious from the line, making just nine-of-26 in the game.

Clay City took an 11-8 lead through the first quarter before the Eels found themselves in foul trouble with three starters being saddled with two fouls each. The result was a scoreless second quarter that allowed the Rox to tie the score at 11-all at halftime. In the third period, Clay City pulled ahead with a 15-7 edge and then hit free throws down the stretch to improve to 3-1 this season.

"It was a great team effort tonight," coach Chris Ames said. "Sloan Miller played a solid game off the bench with some valuable minutes."

Carmela Roeschlein led the squad with a game-high 15 points, but Miller added seven boards for the Eels. Allie Miller had 10 points with Brielle Drelick scoring nine points and both Abby Reed and Kelly McCullough had three points.

The Eels are back in action on Monday evening with a varsity only game at White River Valley beginning at 6:30 p.m.
