Merritt home kicks off Home Tour

Sunday, November 29, 2009

The newly constructed home of Janyne Merritt, owner of Homes Express, is featured this year on the annual Tri Kappa Christmas home Tour. The tour will take place Dec. 6.
The holiday season is off and running.

One sure sign of the season is the annual Tri Kappa Christmas Home Tour.

The home tour is back this year with four fabulous homes being featured.

Merritt's jolly Santa and bright Christmas tree greet all who enter the home.
The first home featured this week is the newly built home of Janyne Merritt, owner of Homes Express.

This three-story home features ivory siding, black shutters, a 12-by-12 roof and 4,000-square feet.

It is located west of Brazil, with clear visibility of the home from United States 40.

To compliment the housing market Janyne specializes in, she decided to build her own three-story modular on 10 wooded acres in 2008. The Thomasville (the largest of the modular homes built) was built by Janyne's company, her Amish builder Redman Homes and several local contractors, who completed the home and the additional structures on the property.

Greg Sanders Construction, a two-garage with loft storage; American Heritage Barns, a 30-by-50 pole barn; R&M Flooring, the laminate flooring and various earth tone painted walls; Vision Quest, rear of property trees and sod; and Sugar Ridge Nursery, front of property landscaping.

A brick sidewalk leads you to the front door, which opens into a large foyer, where a tall and slender 10-foot Christmas Tree is decorated in golds, reds and accented in white doves.

To the right of the foyer is the deep red and gold living room, which is themed in a porcelain doll collection. Janyne's mother, Wilma (a retired hairdresser) restyled each of the doll's hair upon arrival to the new home.

To the left of the foyer is the stairwell banister, festooned on white lights and beautiful poinsettias, inviting you upward to the second floor, where the loft overlooks the first floor. This loft area is a cozy television and chatting area for Janyne's youngest daughter to enjoy with her best friends, and a white lighted tree is ornamented in pink, sage green and dove accents. On the second floor (off of the loft area) is also a large workout room, which has an adjoining full bath, just one of this home's three-and-a-half bathrooms. Also on the second floor is a lavender guest room and another spare room that is a peaceful sitting room, portraying an Amish doll collection.

Another stairwell is located off of the second floor loft area, leading up to the huge bedroom of Janyne's youngest daughter.

Caleena's room is gray and black, with earth tones and a wood laminate flooring. The teenage girls dream bedroom ... a mini-fridge, large screen TV, makeup area, air hockey table and 650-square foot to roam around in. Mementos and photos of Caleena's friends and activities are all around this room, which overlooks U.S. 40 and Caleena's high school, Northview.

Returning to the main level, the kitchen and family room are found open to each other. The kitchen features a coffee motif with stainless steel appliances and a long island workspace. The family room, off of the kitchen, is warm and inviting with a large screen television and an atrium door leading onto a 15-by-20 deck. The sofa table and plant stands (lots of live foliage throughout the home) found here and throughout the home, have been handcrafted by Larry Lucas, owner of Lucas Construction.

Also in the kitchen and family room areas (and in almost every room of the home) are many inspirational pieces of wall stenciling by Mandy Garzolini with Upper Case Living.

The master suite is off of the living room and features a grand bedroom suit and the room is accented in chocolate brown gold tones. Awaiting construction is a 500-square foot area above the master bedroom, that will have a spiral staircase leading to a "secret room" when completed.

Beyond the master suite is the master bath, complete with a huge ceramic tile shower, whirlpool tub and a television poised near the tub for luxurious viewing. An enormous walk-in closet is attached to the master bath.

A dining room is also found on the main level, and is accented with an antique church pew (draped with a Last Supper tapestry) and many photos of Janyne's family, dating back to her great-grandparents in the 1800s. This room and the living room also feature a trey ceiling.

On the main level, off of the kitchen, is a half bath, laundry room and a rear door that leads into the attached garage.

Janyne is an avid photo taker, so the entire home displays numerous photos of her two daughters, Caesia and Caleena, her fiancÚ Norman Walker, his children Bobby and Courtney and several photos of family members.

The surrounding property offers a large pole barn, wooden fences built by Quality Fence, brick sidewalks, and believe it or not, a huge fenced in area (with a well stocked mini barn) that houses a pet pig named Viola and two goats names Isabella and Rose.

Make sure you visit the "Charlotte's Web" area on your tour of Janyne's home and property.
