For 10 years now, a local business has been doing its part to help make the Christmas season a little brighter for Clay County youngsters.
Beginning Monday, Shaw Chiropractic, 78 Forest Park Plaza, will start its annual toy drive as part of the Marine Corp Reserves "Toys for Tots" campaign.
"We started collecting toys in the office in 1999," Dr. Julie Shaw told The Brazil Times. "It's for one week only."
Those interested in bringing in new, unwrapped toys may do so by dropping them office at the office Monday, Wednesday or Friday, from 9 a.m.-noon, and 2-6 p.m.
"We collect from patients and there are some people that come in from the community as well," Dr. Shaw said. "We have our patients bring toys into the office as payment, but it's mostly the patients that have appointments scheduled."
Dr. Shaw said the business saw a need to help area residents and came up with the idea to get together with the Marine Corp Reserves.
"I contacted a marine who was in charge of the aspect," she said, "and we made arrangements to have a distribution site in Clay County.
"All the toys collected in Clay County go to people in Clay County. That was our biggest thing," she added.
The drive is for one week only.
The collected toys will be distributed in Brazil, under the supervision of the Clay County Christmas Assistance Program.
Dr. Shaw said the toys will then be stored in a church and a day would be announced later when people may come to the area church to pick up the toys.
