To help support the Clay County Food Pantry, P150 will play a benefit concert at Bethel United Methodist Church, 924 E. Pinckley St., Brazil, at 7 p.m., Dec. 6.
"We hope people will bring non-perishable food items or make donations to support the food pantry," band member Mary Jo Archer recently told The Brazil Times. "We hope to get enough food as possible to help the food pantry, which is getting hit really hard during these hard economic times."
After a discussion with the volunteers at the food pantry, Archer said she knew something had to be done to help the numerous families, especially those with children, who might be in need during the holidays.
"The thought of any child going without food just hurts my heart," Mary Jo said. "More and more people are going to the food pantry each month. They really need help and so does the food pantry."
P150 consists of accomplished musicians, including Mary Jo and her husband Dave Archer, family members Donnie and Marcus Archer and close friends Rick Swearingen and Karen Boes. The band's musical ministry praises the Lord as much as possible by playing contemporary Christian music and a variety of other music, from classic country to rock-n-roll oldies, as well.
"It's important to remember our values in times like this," Marcus Archer said about playing concerts for worthy causes. "It's good to get together and do something for others."
Mary Jo agreed.
"There's a special place in everyone's hearts during this time of year, where we all want to help our fellow man," she said. "I believe that the members of our community will rise to the occasion and they will do whatever they can to help make sure that those in need are helped."
