BLOOMINGTON -- The Northview Knights stuck with a talented Bloomington North basketball squad during the first half on Tuesday night before the Cougars turned up its defensive pressure to pull away to a 55-20 victory.

The Knights were within 26-14 at halftime as a combination of Cougar foul trouble and a nine-point second quarter by Emily Phillips kept Northview within striking distance.

The second half was a much different tale however as North guard Saw-Nee Winningham turned the Knights over early in the second half and the Cougars held Northview scoreless for a nearly 16-minute span in which North forced 18 turnovers. Winningham had eight of her team's 19 steals in the game and Northview didn't score in the second half until just 2:20 remained during a 28-1 Cougars' run. The Knights committed 13 turnovers in the third quarter and North had just eight in the game.

North (4-1 overall) led 15-3 after the first quarter before Phillips rallied the Knights with nine of her team-high 10 points in the second period. With Mo Hirt, who had 11 points and seven rebounds, on the bench with foul trouble and missing starting center Kaity Hoy due to a family emergency, the Cougars struggled to find any rhythm. Bloomington North shot just 14-of-44 from the field before the bench helped raise the average late to a 22-of-58 effort overall.

One bright spot was rebounding where the Knights held a 31-to-30 advantage as Chelsey Sampson had six boards along with Phillips and both Ali Sharton and Carlee Bell had five.

Northview (2-4 overall) opens the conference portion of its schedule in a boy/girl doubleheader against Brown County on Saturday night beginning at 6 p.m.
