NHS frosh girls fall to Clovers

Times Staff Reporter

The Northview girls' basketball C team came out sluggish and never fully recovered, falling to Cloverdale by the score of 37-25 Monday night.

The Knights struggled in the first quarter, scoring only five points, compared to six turnovers. A bad quarter was capped when Clovers guard Bristina Skiles hit a buzzer beating three-pointer to give her team a 15-5 lead.

Another area of struggle for Northview early on was rebounding. The Knights didn't record a single rebound in the first period and were out rebounded by a 13-4 tally in the first half.

Northview attempted to establish momentum by scoring the final six point of the second quarter. But it didn't carry over and they entered the final frame trailing by 15 points.

Northview again tried to rally in the fourth quarter, as they opened the frame with a 9-2 run to get within eight points with just under three minutes to play. Cloverdale clamped down, and the Knights failed to score again.

Cassie Weddle was the only bright spot for the Knight's offensively, scoring 15 of the team's 25 points. Weddle was the only Northview player to score more than four points.

C Team coach Michael Medearis said he was happy his team was able to mount a late rally, but stressed it was crucial for the Knights to improve their early play, so as to give them a better chance to compete late.

"We came out real slow and got in a hole that was too big to climb out of," Medearis said. "But the girls didn't give up, and that was nice to see."

The loss drops Northview to 1-2. Medearis said despite needing to improve in several areas, he felt his team was improving with each passing game and expected the improvements to result in wins in the near future.

"I think we're progressing," Medearis said. "Each game we seem to be getting better and I expect (our improvement) to continue."
