TERRE HAUTE -- The Northview Lady Knight came out flat and never recovered, taking a 62-29 pounding at the hands of Terre Haute North Tuesday night.

The Patriots took command early, taking a 9-2 lead in the first two-and-a-half minutes of play. They pushed the lead to 20-5 by periods' end and had a commanding 37-14 lead going into the half.

Aside from the score, Northview was also dominated on the boards, as North out rebounded them by a 16-5 tally in the first half. The Knights also committed nine turnovers, to only four for the Patriots. Coach Lu Anne Anderson said her team's inability to start fast had a dooming effect, as they were never able to establish any momentum.

"When you play a team like North, who has got a lot of weapons, you can't start slow," Anderson said. "We were flat and never really focused and we never got anything going."

The second half offered little relief for the Knights, whose record fell to 4-5 on the season. Kelsey Searing was a lone bright spot for Northview, leading the team in both points (10) and rebounds (five).

Anderson said she hoped her team would learn from such a lopsided defeat, but also stressed it was crucial for her players to erase Tuesday's contest from their memories. She said she was going to keep her focus solely on defeating Edgewood Friday night, and keeping her squad undefeated in conference play.

"We always tell the girls every game is a learning experience," Anderson said. "That said, we've got to put this out of our minds. We've got a big conference game Friday. We're undefeated in conference and we like to stay that way."

The girls' tip-off Friday at 6 p.m. as the beginning of a girls/boys doubleheader against the Mustangs.

The Northview JV team found their North opponents to be even more unforgiving, as they were sent to a 37-10 loss. Five different Northview players tied for the team scoring lead with two.
