A second half change in defensive philosophy by Terre Haute North was enough to do in the Northview 'C' basketball team on Wednesday night. The Patriots picked up the pressure full court in the second half and was able to turn a five-point deficit into a 38-29 lead.

The Knights led 19-14 near the mid-point of the third quarter following a jumper by Kindra Cox, but the Patriots began to turn up the heat, challenging Northview from endline to endline to force a bevy of turnovers. Devan Harlan scored and Alissa Turpin followed a Knights' turnover with a free throw. Aliyah Foster added another to close the gap to 19-18 for the Patriots. Ashley Hughes scored off a defensive rebound in transition to push the lead back to 21-18 for the Knights. However, the rest of the quarter was a see-saw affair with five lead changes.

Ashley Hughes (No. 33) scored 12 points to lead the Northview 'C' team.
Lacey Powers and Turpin scored to give the Patriots a one-point lead, Alexis Bender followed with two free throws for the Knights. Foster and Hughes traded 3-pointers, but it was North that ended the quarter strongly. Harlan scored off a jumper and the Knights' 10th turnover of the period led to a bucket by Foster and a 29-26 Patriots' lead.

The fourth quarter continued the Terre Haute North assault as the Patriots ran off the first six points for the final period. The 13-3 run was too much for the Knights to handle as they trailed 35-26 at that point and turnovers, both forced and unforced, led to just three fieldgoal attempts in the fourth period by the Knights.

Terre Haute North hit just three-of-13 of its own attempts in the period, but the Knights turned the ball over 11 times in the quarter and 30 times in the game.

The second half was in stark contrast to the first two periods as Northview got three fieldgoals by Bender in the first quarter as the Knights competed on the boards. Hughes had four of her seven rebounds before the break as Northview was even with the Patriots in total rebounds, 14-14. After the half, North outrebounded the Knights 19-14 to earn the win.

Hughes led the Knights with 12 points followed by Bender's eight points. Foster led North with 10 points with Turpin adding seven and Clark scoring six.

The 'C' team is now off until Jan. 11 when they visit Danville at 6 p.m.
