The Northview Knights overcame a double-digit second half deficit against Edgewood on Thursday night to swap leads down the stretch with the Lady Mustangs before falling short over the final seconds in a 33-32 loss.

The Knights began to chip away at a 29-19 lead in the third quarter as Jessica LaTourette, who had a team-high 10 points scored a bucket. Ashley Hughes followed with a jumper and Cassie Weddle knocked home two free throws to get Northview within 29-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Knights kept up the defensive pressure to start the final stanza as Danielle LaTourette scored and Weddle followed up after an offensive rebound to tie the score on a jumper with 3:35 remaining. Jessica LaTourette gave Northview its first lead with a free throw to cap an 11-0 run, but the Mustangs answered on a bucket by Taylor Young to retake the lead. Taylor Carter returned the advantage to the Knights with her lone fieldgoal of the game but Olivia Lunn answered for the resurgent Mustangs.

Trailing 33-32, the Knights called a timeout with 29.4 seconds remaining to set up a final play. Carter got the call and missed a shot, but the Knights got the ball back on a traveling call. Jessica LaTourette had a good look inside surrounded by Mustangs but the ball rolled off the rim and the Mustangs grabbed the loose ball to seal the victory.

In the first half, the Mustangs looked sharp, hitting six-of-seven fieldgoals in the first quarter to take a 15-8 lead despite Jessica LaTourette hitting all four of her free throws in the period. The Knights were able to slow the Mustangs in the second quarter, holding them to just two-of-seven fieldgoal shooting. Lunn did most of the damage for the Mustangs, following up a seven-point first period with six more in the second quarter. The freshman had a game-high 15 points, but was held to just two points after the half.

The Knights got 12 rebounds by Jessica LaTourette to go with her 10 points and Cassie Weddle added eight points for the Knights.

The Northview girls are back in action following a break when they host Greencastle on Jan. 5.
