Robert Wayne Mayrose, 94, Clay City, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at home.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1915, in Posey Township, to Ed and Vallie (Trout) Mayrose. He attended school at Wools School, graduated from Staunton High School in 1933 and received a teaching certificate from Indiana Normal School. After retiring from Arketex he served as Brazil Township Assessor, Clay County Assessor and Clay County Councilman. He enjoyed their cabin at Cataract Lake, loved to fish, especially for Crappie, and enjoyed playing cards with friends and family.
He was a member of the Clay City United Methodist Church, Clay City Senior Citizens, Clay City Lions Club, Low 12 Club of Rockville and the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his sister Wynemah Miller
Survivors include his wife of 70 years Josephine (Heacox) Mayrose, whom he married on Oct. 28, 1939, son James and wife Carole Mayrose, Clay City, daughter Linda and husband Bruce Bland, Avon, brother Jack Mayrose, Brazil, four grandchildren Ed and wife Amy Maryrose, Jeffersonville, Ind., Michelle Mayrose, Conyers, Ga., Andrea and husband Brad Wilson, Cloverdale, Cindy McKibbin, Richmond, two step grandchildren: Mike and wife Jenny Bland, Ellen Syphers, both of Indianapolis, six great-grandchildren Cody Mayrose, Kyle Mayrose, Brody Mayrose, Ashley Wilson, Steven Wilson, and Kelsey Wilson, three step great-grandchildren Rachael Syphers, Adam Bland and Abigail Bland.
Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Steve Rundel officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery, Brazil. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from 4-8 p.m. Donations may be made to VistaCare, Clay City Senior Citizens or Clay City United Methodist Church.
