He was born April 21, 1934, in Hillsdale, Ind., as the son of Justus and Lucille Hill Sherman.
Following high school, he attended ISU and continued his technical education.
He married Sondra "Sonnie" Glidden, Aug. 21, 1959, at Whiteland Methodist Church.
He worked as a data processing manager and had been employed at CBS Records in Terre Haute and as a claims adjuster for the Laborers Welfare Fund.
While serving in the U.S. Army, he was stationed in Germany. He was an active member of the First Christian Church of Brazil.
Dean served as an Elder at First Christian Church, taught Sunday school, participated in the youth group, and worked in the bus ministry.
He was also active in the Jaycees Club in Richmond, Ind., had served as president of the local PTA and president of the Staunton sports booster organization.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley Taylor, and grandchild Christa D. Rogers.
He is survived by his wife Sonda Kay Sherman, children Dean Sherman (Marilyn), Duane Sherman (Polly), Dawn Rogers (Mark), and Drew Sherman (Michelle), grandchildren Justin and Lauren Sherman, D.J. and Andrew Sherman, Gabriel and Katie Rogers, Mandy and Brad Johnson, Megan and Michael Clower, great-grandchildren Connor Johnson, and other extended family.
Moore Funeral Home was chosen to provide funeral services. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at First Christian Church, Brazil. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, at the church, with burial to follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
