Arnold Frederick Martin, 75, Brazil, died at 7:45 a.m., Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, in Plainfield, Ind.
He was born May 3, 1934, in Gary, Ind., as the son of Raymond and Inez Wright Martin.
Following high school, he attended Purdue University. He worked as an engineer at U.S. Steel until his retirement.
He married Patsy Lou Hamilton Sept. 25, 1954. He was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Brazil.
Brother Martin was a distinguished Freemason. He joined Glen Park Lodge No. 732 in 1990. He served as the presiding officer, (Master), in 1996. He was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Patron several times in both Olive Chapter No. 396 and Brazil Chapter No. 80. He served in many positions for Eastern Star, including the District 8 Association as Chaplain and the Indiana Grand Chapter as the District 8 Chairman of the Knights Templar Eye Foundation. He served as the Grand Marshal of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Indiana in 2001-02. He was a Life Endowed Member of his Lodge, a Gold Card sponsor of the Indiana Masonic Home Foundation and held many Honorary Memberships in other Lodges for his dedicated participation. He was a recipient of the "Order of Service to Masonry," the highest award that can be given to a Mason in Indiana. He currently held the very distinguished position of Master of Bartimaeus Lodge UD, a Grand Lodge appointed group that helps those with a physical handicap to become Freemasons.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Patsy, daughters Pamela Roytan (Bill), Carmel, and Janet Chrispell (Craig), Plainfield, sons Eugene Martin and John Martin, both of Derby, Kan., grandchildren Jacquelyn Martin, Jennifer Chrispell, Andrew Chrispell, Sarah Chrispell, Paige Martin and Alexander Martin, brother Kenneth Martin, Iowa, two nephews and one niece.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Moore Funeral Home. Eastern Star memorial services will begin at 7 p.m., with Masonic Services to follow.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Eastern Time, Wednesday, at Auburn Cemetery, east of Marshall, Ill., with Pastor Greg Puttmann officiating.
